Forklift Components in More Detail
A forklift is made of many components. The main components which make up a lift truck are the truck frame, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Moreover, a forklift consists of various types of attachments. All the components making up a forklift are all essential because they work together to make the operation of the machinery possible. The next paragraphs describe a few of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machine operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or harm the driver. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and downwards. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the component which the forks and other types of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a variety of attachments could be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different kinds of attachments are very helpful for moving different types of loads.
